Johnny’s birthplace inspired the name of his self-published music “company” for several years during his songwriting career, but also made naming a band playing his legacy music pretty dang easy. The Layton Hollow Band was a full-fledged collaboration of some of the area’s most talented musicians who played on the Johnny Mullins Collection, Volume One album. Out of that beautiful experience, the Layton Hollow Gals were formed, performed and ultimately recorded the JMC, Volume Two. But guess what??!? The Layton Hollow Gals haven’t been to Layton Hollow. The cabin where Dad grew up was purchased and torn down and in my mind it has just been a place of lore. Well, come to find out, it’s not too far away and it’s a beautiful area and I’m definitely going to take a road trip there and document the trip. It’ll be fun and I’ll add to this post when it happens.
